A newly formed alliance of commercial fishery stakeholders is calling for the government to establish clear, lasting, responsible regulatory oversight for all fisheries.
The Unified Fisheries Conservation Alliance (UFCA) was formed back in November.
Board Member Colin Sproul talked more about why the alliance came together.
“What brought such a broad based coalition together is a commitment to sustainability in Atlantic fisheries and to one set of rules for all participants.”
The alliance also believes in working side by side with Indigenous fishers to find a positive outcome to their disputes.
“Right now we’re focused on talks with the federal government,” “We believe that we can work together to inform and guide management of Atlantic fisheries and make a great future, and sustainable one, for all participants in it.”
The UFCA represents thousands of multi-species commercial fishermen, fishery associations and associated businesses from Atlantic Canada.
