The whale skeleton displayed at Leif Erickson park in Cape Forchu has been given a name.
The public was asked to submit names that reflected three criteria: relation to Yarmouth/Cape Forchu history, ease of pronunciation, and originality and creativity.
There were 130 total names submitted, with 90 unique entries.
On Wednesday, the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth voted on the top three entries and the name Foggy was chosen.
The name not only reflects the common weather condition, but also a famous humpback whale that has been rescued numerous times in the area. The original Foggy passed away a few years ago but the Cape Forchu whale will help to honor it.
