After a week’s delay, ships were finally able to head out for dumping day this morning in LFA34.
The official start to the lobster fishing season happened at 4 a.m. with well wishes pouring in for the lobster fisherman.
Town Crier, David Olie, was in the Y95 studio and gave the proclamation.
“Your labor forms a cornerstone of our economy for the greater good of our entire community,” proclaimed Olie. “We wish you a safe and bountiful season of low winds and high prices.”
Reverend Bill Newell was also in the studio to bless the fleet and pray for the fishers.
“Please watch over each and every one of them, keep them alert and attentive to the the tasks at hand,” said Newell. “Prevent them from taking unnecessary risks and chances, and may they always be alert to their surroundings. Guide them and their vessels to and fro. May they have a good catch and, in these turbulent days, good markets.”
You can see the entire blessing and proclamation on the Y95 facebook page.
