COVID-19 testing speed could soon be improving in the province.
At Tuesday’s Provincial COVID-19 update, Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang announced a plan to increase testing capacity to 2500 tests per day at the central lab in Halifax by mid-November.
Doctor Strang says they are also adding a new piece of equipment at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, so tests can be processed there.
“It’s the same piece of equipment that we, actually, have in the lab here in Halifax,” he says. “What it will do is allow, I think it’s, up to 400 tests a day to be done through there.”
Doctor Strang says that’ll especially help in Cape Breton.
He says all tests collected in the eastern zone will be processed through CBRH.
“Shipped to the Cape Breton Regional and do them there,” he says. “Certainly, in the local Cape Breton area, greatly reduce the transportation time.”
No new cases were reported Tuesday, three active infections remain.
