The province is further loosening COVID-19 restrictions.
Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health, says indoor nursing home visits remain limited to one person at a time, but any number of people can now be on the approved visitor list.
He says, as of Wednesday, residents will be allowed to leave for non-urgent medical appointments.
Dr. Strang says community-based adult day programs may also resume.
He provided some clarity on the state of after school programs.
“We know that the before and after school programs are critically important, and provide a vital service, to families, and we need to make sure that they operate safely.”
Dr. Strang says before and after school programs will go forward.
However, he says groups will be limited to no more than 15 children.
“The guidelines are designed to limit the number of, what we call, random interactions between children, especially children who are in different cohorts.”
Dr. Strang says programs can run multiple groups of 15 or less, provided they can be separated.
He says they’re also working with four major venues to allow more than the maximum, 200 indoor and 250 outdoor, visitor group size.
The venues, Centre 200 in Sydney, Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish and Scotia Speedworld nearby the Halifax Airport, will be allowed to have multiple maximum size groups, so long as they can keep the groups separate, including at the entrance, lines, bathrooms, and exits.
