The province is expected to announce more details of their Back to School Plan on Friday.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill and Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health are set to provide Nova Scotians with more details on how students will return to school in September, and what that might look like when dealing with COVID-19.
The province has shared details of the plan previously, which included a layered approach for schools featuring staggered recesses, distancing in classrooms, enhanced cleaning protocols, and mandatory masks in hallways and on buses.
Schools will also have an isolation area, where students who are feeling unwell can wait to be picked up by a parent or guardian.
The plan has become a hot topic for parents and teachers alike, with many claiming not enough is being done to prevent spread, especially when it comes to smaller schools who can’t facilitate physical distancing.
A recent protest led by teachers from across the province was held in Halifax pushing for the government to provide more clarity on the plan.
They demanded details on whether they would be responsible for disinfecting classrooms, if they will be able to change PPE between classes and how they will manage one-on-one time with students while following safety protocols, among other topics left out of the revealed plan.
The conference is expected to start around noon and will be livestreamed on the Nova Scotia Governments website and Facebook page.
