The hunt for Tobias Doucette is finally over.
The RCMP sent a tweet out at 1:19 this morning stating they had taken him into custody without incident.
Last night he was sighted in the woods near the Conquerall Mills Rd. and Hwy #3 area around 9, and police responded quickly.
RCMP Public Information Officer Cpl. Lisa Croteau says Doucette was in good condition when apprehended at 12:50 AM.
“When I was talking to the investigator, he was dehydrated but in fairly good condition when taken into custody.”
It was the second sighting in recent days, on Friday a possible sighting was reported in the Glen Allen Drive area and then on Hollingsworth Drive. The area was secured as police and military searched for him.
Although they did not find Doucette, the presence of bare footprints led the police to call the sighting credible.
Police say Doucette allegedly assaulted his common-law partner at the Bridgewater Hotel on High Street around 11 p.m. Monday.
Doucette is also accused of stabbing BPS officer Matthew Bennett, who was responding to the domestic disturbance call made by hotel staff, in the neck.
He fled the hotel and when last seen he was only wearing a pair of shorts, no shirt and no shoes.
His common-law partner received minor injuries in the attack, and was released from hospital.
Sergeant Bennett underwent surgery in Halifax and is now recovering from his injuries.
Attempts to locate Doucette were unsuccessful until he was spotted in the LaHave River Tuesday afternoon. When police tried to apprehend him, a K-9 dog sustained injury before Doucette could escape into the woods.
The dog, Fergus, is recovering from his injury at home.
The police investigation is ongoing and Doucette is expected to appear at Bridgewater Justice Centre on Monday, July 27 for initial plea.
BPS and RCMP are investigating charges for Doucette, including Attempt Murder, Aggravated Assault, Assault with A Weapon, Assault, Injuring a Law Enforcement Animal, two counts of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Mischief under $5000 as well as theft of a motor vehicle.
