More senators are calling for a joint federal-provincial inquiry into the Portapique shooting spree.
Senator Mary Coyle, who’s from Antigonish, is part of the group advocating for an inquiry into the deadliest mass killing in our country’s history.
Coyle tells The Hawk their first call to action only included three senators- all from our province- but 40 from across the country have now joined them to demand answers.
“This is an issue of national importance,” she says. “There has never been such a tragedy in our country before this.”
Coyle says we were promised action in days, and it’s been three months since the April massacre.
She says they want to make sure it’s done right- and soon.
“There’s some rumbling that it may not be as open, transparent, and comprehensive as the public needs it to be.”
Coyle says that’s not acceptable.
She says the longer they delay, the clearer it becomes a public inquiry must take place.
