There has been one more positive COVID-19 test result in Nova Scotia.
Chief medical officer of health, Dr, Robert Strang says the lone positive result out of 639 tests, followed all the rules.
“The case is in Eastern Zone and it’s somebody who’s exposure was part of their travel outside of the province. Fortunately, this individual followed Public Health protocol and was in self-isolation from the time they returned to the province and had minimal exposure at the time they may have been infectious.”
The total number of cases is now 1058, with 43,340 negative test results and 993 people who have recovered.
There have been 60 deaths in the province and there are now only three people in the hospital, with only one in the ICU.
The Northwood long-term care home in Halifax has five active cases, three residents and two staff.
Premier Stephen McNeil says they were already in talks about changes to Northwood before the pandemic hit them especially hard.
“Prior to this virus, there’d been ongoing conversations single rooms in the facility, there was a number of conversations between the Department of Health and Northwood and they’ll still be ongoing and, of course, we’ll work with not only Northwood but all of our partners.”
With many businesses planning to open Friday, or shortly after, people are now wondering about school in the Fall.
Dr. Strang says they haven’t actually begun any talks about a possible return to the classroom in September.
“It’s coming very soon; I know we’ve got some meetings coming up in the next couple of weeks, understanding that we’re very busy focusing on getting to Friday and we’re focusing on working on our daycares who are coming soon, so we haven’t had a detailed conversation yet about schools.”
He also said they will be having a conversation with Elections Nova Scotia about the October municipal elections but that discussion is also waiting as they focus on more immediate concerns.
