An announcement about money for municipalities is being welcomed by the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities.
The organization’s president, Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood, says the federal government will give municipalities their Gas Tax Fund money in one lump sum, instead of two separate payments.
She says getting one large payment early in the year will help with the infrastructure work it’s used for.
“We dole that out for capital projects, things like we’re doing – the Glebe Street project is certainly one of those things,” she explained. “Other things could be ferry terminals, wharves, all those pieces. So it doesn’t go far, but it’s certainly good to get it a little bit earlier even though it’s not extra money.”
Mayor Mood says this will keep people working on jobs, many of which are already underway.
