While COVID-19 has stopped many job seekers in their tracks, there is an organization that can still help shore up employment during the pandemic.
Executive Director Southwest Employment Services Rhonda Zasitko says the organization has pivoted to providing online supports.
She notes that training and employment opportunities still exist – it’s just a matter of reaching out.
The only difference now, is that there are no face-to-face meetings.
“We do have our 1-800 number that people can call or else they can email info@swemployment.com that’s checked regularly,” she explained. “Any appointments that we had before we just kept doing by the phone or by texting, whatever worked best for the client.”
As it turns out, the downtime could be a blessing in disguise for some.
Zasitko says now is the perfect time for some potential entrepreneurs to be working on a business plan for once everything opens up.
She says they regularly work with other employment stakeholders and opportunities are there for people who have been considering taking the plunge.
“We work really closely with the CBDC and our case managers will work with clients that want to become entrepreneurs and help them in whatever way they can,” she said. “There’s so many places they can be referred to and now is a very good time to be working on your business plan.”
She says staff are now working on a weekly job search work shop, which will hopefully be up and running by the end of June.
