He’s become somewhat of a celebrity along the cold Atlantic waters off Nova Scotia and it appears he’s spending some time in the South Shore.
Hilton the Great White Shark was tracked as recently as Sunday near Feltzen South, and just this morning (Monday, August 6th, 2018) south of the Tancook Islands.
Captain Bill Flower runs a deep-sea fishing charter out of Lunenburg, NS.
In an interview with Acadia News Monday morning, Flower says he was surprised just how many people were in the water with such a predator so close to shore.
“He pinged at Spindlers Beach, and over at the Ovens Park, I obviously don’t know that he was in their front yard because they sighted him, I thought they should have changed the name of Spindlers Beach to Amity,” Flower says jokingly.
Hilton typically only surfaces for a short period of time making it tough to spot the apex predator.
Flower says although he has yet to see Hilton with his own eyes, he says it would be something to catch a glimpse of the celebrity Great White.
“It’s absolutely amazing, but he was pinged at Tanner’s Pass way inland and over in the Stonehurst area after leaving Feltzen South, and this morning I believe he was down off Flat Island in the mouth of Mahone Bay,” notes Flower, adding, “I’d just love to see him.”
