It’ll be after the May long weekend before the province considers reopening schools and daycares.
Premier Stephen McNeil made the announcement at Tuesday’s COVID-19 update.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says COVID-19 measures won’t be relaxed in any way for at least a couple of weeks and, even when they are, physical distancing, hygiene, and other rules will remain in place for months.
Dr. Strang says other provinces have begun to lift restrictions, but we aren’t there yet.
“The pandemic is not playing out across the country in a common or consistent way, and so we have to have a plan that works and is appropriate for Nova Scotia,” he says. “This is not something we can rush; we still have a significant amount of virus activity… it’s absolutely premature for us to open things up significantly.”
Dr. Strang reported three new deaths, all at Halifax’s Northwood care home. 15 new cases were announced Tuesday; there are now 915 cases province-wide.
