The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has temporarily halted a requirement for at-sea fisheries observers aboard commercial fishing vessels.
The move came into effect on April 2nd and is in effect for 45 days.
The requirement for an observer was set aside due to COVID-19.
The government says that given the nature of the work of at-sea observers, it’s not possible for them to effectively implement isolation and quarantine guidelines, which potentially increases their risk of exposure.
