Canada’s top doctor knows that this is a frustrating time for everyone as we wait for signs of improvement.
Doctor Theresa Tam explains however, that so far, our efforts are at least making a small dent.
“Thanks to all the efforts of Canadians, the health system in Canada is coping and we need to keep it that way,” says Tam, “…there are areas where the virus has been the most active like Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, but these areas are managing too.”
Another ray of hope that she gave is that that the hardest-hit countries like Italy are showing that they may have already passed their peak.
“We’re here to learn about the lessons learned and perspective of all these countries as we adapt our responses. This is a pandemic that has not been with us very long, and experts across the country are continuing to learn and adapt our collective knowledge.”
Tam tells us that despite that good news, the worst may still be on its way as the COVID-19 virus can take several weeks to progress in each and every case.
“As the outbreak progresses, fatalities will begin to mount. That could explain why we’re seeing a sharper rise in deaths reported in recent days.”
The Chief Public Health Officer adds that we owe it to everyone to not put anyone else at risk, and to do all we can to stop the spread of COVID-19 right now.
As of earlier today, over 290 thousand Canadians have been tested for COVID-19, and around 95 per-cent of those tests have come back as negative.
