An Argyle woman continues her cycling journey across Canada.
Jill Smith is taking part in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.
Smith began with 36 other cyclists and around 40 volunteers in Vancouver on September 6th.
She raised $17,000.
Speaking from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Smith says a moment she won’t forget on this journey was a chat with a young girl in Saskatchewan.
“Later on we were stopped, and her mother came up to me and gave me a $20 donation. She said it was from her daughter, who was so impressed from talking to me that she wanted to give me her babysitting money.”
Smith has had her own battles with head and neck cancer in recent years.
She says the ride has been a healing journey.
“To be with other people who are really concerned about cancer, and whose lives have been touched by cancer, and to be able to talk really freely about what we experienced is very healing.”
She says she’s going on this journey because she wants to help kids who have been diagnosed with the disease.
The 7,000 kilometre ride will end in Halifax next Saturday.
