The head of the province’s Serious Incident Response Team is retiring.
Ron MacDonald will retire next month after heading up SIRT since it was created in 2012.
The organization investigates serious incidents that involve police actions.
After spending 26 years in civil service MacDonald isn’t walking away completely.
He will assume the role of chief civilian director of British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office.
Justice Minister Mark Furey calls our loss BC’s gain.
Furey credits MacDonald with helping to establish an innovative investigative model that is both unique to Atlantic Canada and well respected across the country.
The process to replace MacDonald will begin immediately.
