It’s Oscar Time Movie Fans! The Nominations for 2020 were released this morning.
Full Disclosure: Although I have this weird curiosity about who wins every year, I really don’t care that much any more. The show itself is usually terrible, and awards really don’t effect my enjoyment of whatever movies I like at all.
On top ofAnd I’m still bitter about Ghandi winning Picture of the Year over ET back in 1982. That’s right; I’m old.
So, anyway. I paid particular attention this year because of the chance that “The Lighthouse” could get nominated, and it did!
“The Lighthouse” was nominated for an Oscar in Cinematography, and it’s certainly well-deserved. Will it win? I seriously doubt it – I have “1917” pegged for that one – but just being nominated is significant.
The leading movie this year is a bit of a shock – it’s “Joker”, nominated for 11 Oscars.
It’s significant in that it’s in theory a “Comic Book” movie, and they are historically snubbed by what I feel is a somewhat pretentious Academy. There’s a lot that the Academy turns their collective noses at.
