It’s almost time for the annual lighting of Yarmouth’s Christmas tree.
Misty James of Yarmouth Recreation says that although there are always last minute tweaks the Public Works staff always do a great job getting everything ready.
“They always have it beautifully lit, so we’ll have hot chocolate and some refreshments down in the park to encourage people to come stroll down through,” she explained. “Usually people spend some time taking pictures with Santa around the lights and the tree and down by the gazebo, and the fountain is all lit up too.”
The lighting begins at 6 p.m. with greetings from the various government representatives.
The ceremony also marks the start of the Christmas season for the Yarmouth area with numerous events taking place, such as the Candy Cane Lane Festival the following evening.
The tree lighting event goes rain or shine.
