In the past it drew many people to the waterfront as fishing boats and pleasure craft were adorned with Christmas lights and spectacular fireworks were launched from the boats.
But not this year.
Yarmouth town councillor Steve Berry was trying to organize the event for this weekend.
“We only had one boat that kind of stepped up and wanted to be involved. To try to do everything in the next few days with fireworks and insurance would kind of be impossible. We did what we could and put it out there and it just didn’t happen.”
Berry says it could be because the Labour Day Weekend with people going away.
“I know people who have tried to do events over the last little bit have said it’s the same for or five volunteers that step up every time and I think it’s a reflection of where were at and maybe we can take a look at ourselves and say you know, it’s time for us all do a little and revive some of our events in Yarmouth. That would be great.”
He hopes the Parade of Lights will return as part of Seafest next year but it was cancelled in July, also because a lack of interest.
“That’s the main goal, to get in back in Seafest and hopefully with the disappointment with people this year, they take a look at things and step up and help out next year.”
