RCMP in Yarmouth are investigating a case of alleged sextortion involving a 12-year-old girl.
Police say the girl’s mother contacted them just over a week ago to say her daughter had sent intimate images of herself to someone she met online.
The mother said those images were then shared with others.
The victim had been communicating on social media with someone she didn’t know and that individual requested intimate images and videos and she sent them.
She then blocked that person.
Someone in her contact list says they were contacted by the same person who said if the girl didn’t send more photos he would share the ones he already had with her contacts.
The girl sent more.
She was then contacted by someone else who claimed to have her photos and also threatened to share them if she didn’t send more.
This time she blocked the person and informed her parent about what had happened.
RCMP are warning people to be careful who they communicate with over social media and to be careful about sharing images.
Police continue to investigate.
