There seems to be a problem in front of the Lake Milo Boathouse…vehicles aren’t stopping at the crosswalk.
Yarmouth Recreation Director Frank Grant tells Y95 News many people park their vehicles and bikes on the lower end of Prospect St. and then try to cross Main.
“They push the light at the crosswalk, which should help someone to cross the street safely, but what is happening is that people are not seeing the flashing lights, they’re not seeing the people waiting to cross the street and we’re having lots of close calls”
Grant says some vehicles don’t slow down to the 50km/h speed that is posted just north of the Lake Milo Boathouse and don’t seem to see the clearly marked crosswalk,
“It’s a busy area with boating and swimming and…we need people to slow down when they’re entering the town, especially along Milo. It is a crosswalk area, it should be safe for people to cross the street. We’re just hearing numerous times that there’s lots of close calls”
The crosswalk has the yellow warning lights above it that flash when pedestrians push the button.
He says they’ve also had some close calls right in front of the building, where people stop to drop off kids, so they’ve made that area non-parking and have put some pylons there to help with visibility
Many of those who use the spot for swimming and other activities park their vehicles or bikes at the bottom of Prospect St. and cross to the facility.
