The party will be to celebrate the day the rusting hull of the MV Farley Mowatt is towed out of Shelburne Harbour.
It’s been there since 2014.
On June 15, South Shore-St. Margarets MP Bernadette Jordan announced that the Canadian Coast Guard would be removing the Farley Mowat from the Shelburne Marine Terminal.
Jordan spearheaded a private member’s motion on abandoned and derelict vessels.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says they’re going to call the party ‘Farewell Farley’.
“We will be more than glad to see it go for sure. Of course everybody knows it’s been there far too long, it’s been a huge battle, but at the end of the day the right thing’s happening and it’s going.”
She says the Coast Guard is preparing the vessel for towing.
Mattatall says she hopes the Coast Guard will give them a couple of days notice prior to towing so they can plan the party at the wharf so everyone can see the Farley Mowat leave.
