The number of school bus red light violations fell in the 2017/18 school year.
That according to numbers released by the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education.
Director of operational services Steve Stoddart says there were 201 violations, compared to 271 the year before and 299 in 2015/16.
“I would like to see all violations eliminated, but I know that’s not going to happen. If we can drop them by 25 percent or more each year that would be great. I’m very pleased with the numbers this year.”
Stoddart says they installed flashing red LED lights in the grills of buses in Yarmouth County, which activate with the main red lights and are more visible to oncoming traffic.
He says that project will be expanded to include all buses in the region.
Stoddart says continued awareness campaigns are also helping.
