Vandalism is becoming a big problem in the town of Yarmouth.
At last night’s council meeting, councillor and chair of the Communities in Bloom committee Wade Cleveland said a number of areas in town have been vandalized lately, including brand new basketball nets just installed at Yarmouth Central School.
“It wasn’t more than a week after they were installed that they were vandalized. One of the nets were pulled almost completely off the backboard. It’s a very frustrating situation.”
He says a group are making particular markings across town, including on waste receptacles, and many small trees have been knocked over.
Cleveland says Frost Park is regularly vandalized, including the fountain last November.
He says the town’s parks supervisor has sent a letter to the staff sergeant of the Yarmouth Town RCMP about the incidents, and the town plans on doing a social media campaign to raise awareness.
