The Warden of the Municipality of Yarmouth says they share a vision with Th’YARC.
That vision is for the future use of the former Arcadia School building, of which the municipality and YARC officials have signed a purchase and sale agreement.
Th’YARC plans to move out of their location on Parade Street and renovate the former school into a new multi-use arts centre.
Leland Anthony says council are doing what they feel is best for their residents.
“We liquidated an asset that was going to cost the residents of our municipality a large chunk of money to maintain or tear down. An organization approached us through a request for proposals, and they were the one with best options. They are moving forward. This is where they want to be. This is a great opportunity for both Th’YARC and Yarmouth County.”
YARC president Mitch Bonnar was handed the keys to the property last week, and Anthony says they are looking to exchange the deed sometime next week.
Anthony says it’s a responsible stewardship decision with significant cultural benefits.
