Yarmouth’s biggest festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Seafest officially begins today, with a full slate of events until Sunday.
It all begins today with the Mayor’s Picnic, which moved from Frost Park to Mariners Centre due to rain.
It’s been three years since Seafest became a five day festival, down from 10.
Seafest president David Outhouse says there really is something for everyone.
“There’s no real downtime. It’s one event after the other. Most people since we’ve made the change have given us positive results from it.”
New events this year include the play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in Frost Park and an author meet and greet on Saturday at the Yarmouth Mall.
Returning favourites include the rum running races, the Seafest Pageant, the Classic Car Show, Parade of Lights and more.
Outhouse says they work well with the Roaring 20’s Antique Auto Club.
“They bring thousands in for the car show, and we bring in a thousand people from outside the area. In the end, it makes for one huge festival.”
