Like every other town in Canada, Yarmouth is trying to understand how legalized cannabis legislation will affect local by-laws.
As of October 17, Canadians will be permitted to legally buy fresh or dried cannabis, cannabis oil, plants and seeds, and to possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent in public.
The Yarmouth town council has approved a Community Engagement Plan seeking residents’ concerns with the legalized retail sale of non-medical Cannabis.
Mayor Pam Mood says local legislation will be difficult if it’s done in isolation.
“First, reaching out to our neighbours. You can’t be in the municipality of Yarmouth or Argyle and have different rules in Yarmouth (Town), even though we are different units. We just want to be respectful of our neighbours.”
The engagement plan will be on the town’s web page under the ‘Get Involved Yarmouth’ site.
