The filming of a Hollywood production in Yarmouth left a major impact in the area.
Numbers from Nova Scotia Tourism from January to April showed significant growth in the occupancy rate.
That rate for Yarmouth and Acadian Shores was 66% in April, which is a 117 percent increase in occupancy.
Also, 130 local jobs were created to facilitate the production of ‘The Lighthouse’ starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.
YASTA general manager Neil MacKenzie says this will hopefully show Yarmouth off to the world.
“The more rooms you’re selling, the more demand you have for your destination. It’s really great to see we’ve had that occupancy rate. Having numbers really shows that the destination is growing. I really hope the province and other film makers and production teams see our destination as a location to consider for a show, movie or commercial production location.””
MacKenzie says it was also great to hear that Pattinson and Dafoe really enjoyed their time year.
The movie is expected to be released sometime in 2019.
Filming took place at the Leif Ericson Park and inside a large hangar at the Yarmouth Airport.
