The mayor of Yarmouth says council has made no final decision yet on fire dispatch service.
The town has informed the four dispatchers that it intends to lay them off.
It’s says the present formula is unfair because they pay much more for the service than the other units.
The town did received a new funding proposal from some of the other municipal units.
Council or staff have not discussed the contents at any public meeting yet
A Request For Decision document was presented to council’s Committee of the Whole meeting Wednesday.
Council was asked to approve a communication plan to inform residents of the process to outsource fire dispatch service
In the CAO comments section of the document , Jeff Gushue says that while the town dispatch service made sense when it was established a number of years ago, technology and escalating costs have exposed it as being one that may no longer be sustainable.
Despite all the controversy and the social media firestorm over the issue, Mayor Pam Mood says it’s not a public relations nightmare for her.
