The Town of Yarmouth will seek support from its two municipal neighbours in moving ahead with some capital projects for Mariners Centre.
The Committee of the Whole met yesterday, passing a motion to tackle four of 16 items, which are part of a five-year plan
Those include system controls, LED light replacements, the replacement or repair of the flat roof and replacing the main entrance doors.
Those are scheduled to be dealt with this year.
It was pointed out at the meeting that the Mariners Centre deficit has grown from about $8,000 ten years ago to $240,000 currently.
Mayor Pam Mood says deficits do occur.
“We have to take that into consideration and make sure we’re doing everything possible to ensure the deficit is small. We decided we would fund those four items, dependent of course on our partners as well.”
Councillor Wade Cleveland said the town has been chided by the other two municipal units over a proposed expansion for Mariners Centre, suggesting the town was being made to look like the bad guy.
He said now is the time for the municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle to “put up or shut up.”
