Improvements and maintenance work will soon be complete at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse.
The work includes roofing and replacing windows and improvements to the interior.
There were also renovations to the original fog alarm building near the base of the tower where the lighthouse’s original lens will be displayed.
Janet Emin , president of the Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society says visitors will be able to see the lens in action.
Emin says something new this year is a dory which has been placed on the property.
“We set the dory in a position so that tourists and locals can come sit in the dory and take pictures so that it looks like they’re kind of on the ocean.”
A cafe called The Keeper’s Kitchen will open in June.
It has been leased to two individuals and is separate from anything operated by the society.
Emin says Cape Forchu and the lighthouse are known around the world and she expects another good tourism season.
She also appreciates all the support from local residents.
The Lighthouse will open for the season on May 29.
The hours of operation will be from 10am to 7pm.
