There’s been a furor on Facebook over parking fees at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Someone had posted that it was going to cost more to park at the complex.
There has been paid parking there for 15 years.
The current charge is $4.
The individual had posted there would be a $1 hike.
Fraser Mooney, a spokesperson for the health authority says there are no immediate plans to increase parking fees.
Mooney says two years ago the fees raised $800 thousand dollars.
He says revenues help ease some of the burden of rising health care delivery costs for patients.
“We understand that people are concerned. Parking fees can be an additional burden. We feel that it’s important that we’re able to raise some revenue in order to pay for a lot of the increasing costs that we see in terms of prescription drugs, surgical supplies and other health procedures.”
He says any decision on parking fees is made by the provincial health authority.
