A recent fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society being deemed a success on a couple of levels.
After a 15 year hiatus, the Digby Jail and Bail was held last week at the Digby Curling Rink.
It also raised money for support services and organizations like the Sobey Cancer Support Centre, which runs centres including The Lodge that Gives.
Niki Lewis, District Coordinator for the Cancer Society, says it was a fantastic event.
” We arrested about 50 people. We had about 25 to 30 volunteers on hand who were helping out as judges. We had the sheriff’s department on hand to put people in jail. we had defence lawyers, folks taking phone calls and several drivers. In total we’ve raised just over $3500.”
Lewis says they are still taking pledges at CIBC. You can also contact Niki by calling 902-247-5165.
She says the Jail and Bail was also a success is raising awareness about cancer research and the role volunteers play in helping the Canadian Cancer Society.
Lewis says much thanks also goes to all of the sponsors.
