Municipalities have many pieces of infrastructure to keep track of, whether it’s water or sewer lines or roads.
The Department of Municipal Affairs has completed the first phase of an asset management program.
The pilot project, which just wrapped up, involved 5 municipal including Argyle.
Municipal advisor Ahmad Shahwan, says the goal of the project was to develop tools and resources to help municipalities better understand what they have.
“But to also document the procedures and process that we followed and develop templates that we would then share with the rest of the province to allow them to do the same.”
He says the focus was on small and medium sized municipalities who have substantial struggles in finding the resources to survey their entire infrastructure.
Jennifer Duncan, a senior engineer with the department, says says the pilot project has just been completed and It focused on linear assets like water and sewer lines, roads and active transportation trails.
Argyle CAO Alain Muise says it will help staff and council as they prepare capital budgets
