Charles, while wearing a Mariners jersey for the first time, says it’s an amazing feeling.
“Growing up watching the Mariners all the time, it feels great to actually put on this jersey. You always dream of that watching them growing up. It’s pretty exciting. It’s definitely the next level up, and my hope is to make the team in September.”
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron was happy with his team’s draft day.
“I think we really re-stocked the cupboards. A lot of talent, a lot of good players both on the back-end and up-front. We’re really excited. There are probably about six players that could be ready to go this year, and a couple of guys that might need more time, but we couldn’t be happier and we had a really successful draft.”
In awards handed out before the draft, team president and co-owner Mitch Bonnar received the Moe Bent Builders Award for his contributions to hockey in Yarmouth, and graduating defenseman Ben Chipman won the MHL Community Spirit Award for his work both on and off the ice.
