Teaching and support staff with the Nova Scotia Community College are voting on who they want as a bargaining unit. Right now it’s the Nova Scotia Teachers Union.
But the Academic Union of the NSCC has made application to the province’s labour board to become the certified bargaining agent for the collegeg’s faculty and professional support workers.
NSCC spokesperson Kathleen Cameron says she can,t say much at this point.
“It’s important, in fact it’s a requirement, that the process unfold without without any comment by the college as the employer.”
The vote on whether to self represent will take place tomorrow at NSCC campuses in Dartmouth and Halifax, and on Monday or Tuesday for the rest of the campuses.
Over 900 people are eligible to vote within the two bargaining units.
In a news release, NSTU president Liette Doucet said what’s best for education across Nova Scotia is for the NSTU to remain as one.
