On the heels of a US decision to impose tariffs on Canadian Steel, aluminium and other goods, one Dalhousie University Professor says the move is unfortunate, and the wrong way to participate in any type of negotiation.
Dr. Ian McAllister, Professor of Economics at the Halifax based University, feels it’s not a true American way of behaving.
“It is, absolutely in my mind, the wrong way to participate in any kind of negotiation; it’s a very unfortunate and not a constructive approach,” says McAllister.
McAllister applauds Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response to the actions by the US Government, noting “the important thing at the moment, is not to overreact too fast.”
He feels the move is just a political ploy on the part of the Trump Administration.
“We’ve worked with the United States for a long time on many issues, and this is not the way the countries have treated each other.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will be imposing tariffs on US steel, aluminium, and other products and says the measures will take effect July 1st, 2018.
