The president and CEO of Bay Ferries is very pleased with advanced bookings for the Cat ferry.
It begins it’s 2018 service on Friday June 8.
Mark MacDonald says they started selling tickets about five weeks later this year due to the time needed to complete discussions with U.S Customs and Border Protection regarding the Portland terminal.
“As of last Friday, we had passed last year, in terms of year-over-year sales level. That gives us optimism about the season ahead. Our people are pretty pumped at the moment.”
MacDonald credits the cooperative marketing effort among Bay Ferries, Nova Scotia Tourism and Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association for the positive numbers.
Bay Ferries high-speed catamaran arrived in Yarmouth Monday morning from Charleston, South Carolina where it spent the past five months at a shipyard.
MacDonald says the manufacturer fixed a problem that plagued the service last season, leading to fewer sailings.
“A crankshaft, damaged beyond repair, was lifted up and inverted and the new crankshaft was installed.”
He says the vessel then underwent extensive sea trials.
