South Shore Regional Hospital will be getting a new children’s specialist.
Earlier this week, the MLA for Queens-Shelburne, Kim Masland, made public the contract for the South Shore’s only pediatrician, practicing in Chester, would expire this fall.
The South Shore currently has access to one pediatrician one day a week, in Chester and their contract ends in this fall. https://t.co/v1LFnF5czM

MLA for Lunenburg West Mark Furey spoke with officials from Nova Scotia Health Authority who say they have posted a paediatric position out of South Shore Regional.
“It takes a community, collectively, those in government and those in opposition, to ensure that we have the resources that the community requires to provide adequate health services.”
Furey says doctor recruitment is an ongoing process that involves doctors, the Health Authority and the community at large.
“People allege that there’s no work being done, and there’s a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes to ensure that the South Shore Regional Hospital has the resources that a regional hospital should have. And I don’t want people to lose sight of that.”
Furey says a lot of recruitment comes from doctors speaking to other doctors.
It is unclear at this point when the new pediatrician will start.
