A Yarmouth town by-law change involving food trucks has passed first reading.
The amendment to the street vendors by-law would allow food trucks to operate on private property for a full year instead of nine months.
Council voted to proceed to a public hearing next month.
Mayor Pam Mood says at a planning advisory committee meeting earlier in the week, it was unanimous that this is the direction that should be taken.
“The food trucks bring activity and a different dynamic to the town. We’re thrilled that they’re here, and we just want to make sure that it’s smooth sailing for them.”
Clark Sigfridson, owner of Cafe x Clark made the amendment request.
He says it’s only fair for those who want to work 12 months out of the year, and it’s tough for operators to shut down for three months.
Mood says any food truck operator on private property would still have to pay a fee to the town if they’re operating for a full year
