A new school for a Yarmouth County community will be open in 2021.
That’s the word from Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill to the people of Wedgeport.
Last week Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont asked Churchill in the legislature for an update on the construction process.
The minister tells CJLS News they are on schedule to have construction begin in 2019-2020.
Churchill says the department is working on a new site selection process.
“That’s going to hopefully eliminate delays we’ve experienced in the past. The current site selection process has led to some delays in school building up to three years.”
He says the process will be streamlined and the community will be included in the design, programming and site selection.
“We just want to make sure that we’re not entering into a process that’s not going to delay the beginning and completion of that project. We want to get these schools built. This is the first multi-year capital plan that we’ve had for our school system ever in our province so we’re really anxious to make these projects are done on time.”
