A Yarmouth boy is looking to help others by hosting a stem cell clinic next week.
11 year old Josh Cochrane has medical issues that have forced him to stay at the IWK in Halifax throughout his life.
He has lost many friends to disease, including his little friend Marlie last June.
Before her death, he was inspired to start a stem cell clinic to find a match.
167 new people joined the registry.
Cochrane says he wants to beat that mark this year in honour of Marlie.
“This year I have a goal of getting 200 more people on the worldwide registry. Last year in the group that came, someone got a call back. I have six friends right now that could use your help, they are all my age or younger.”
Cochrane says over the last year, he’s lost three friends to cancer.
“It is very hard to lose someone close to you, but it is even harder to become good friends with someone, and watch them get sicker everyday when you know that someone out there may be able to help with a simple swab of their cheeks.”
The clinic will be held at NSCC Burridge Campus on May 9 and 10 from 1-3pm and 5-8pm.
Cochrane is hoping for people aged 17-35 who are willing to be a match for any patient in need.
