South Shore residents are taking it upon themselves to try and woo doctors to the area.
Alison Clements with the Health Services Foundation and Tina Hennigar of Now Lunenburg are off to Digby today and tomorrow to speak with doctors and students about why they should practice in the area.
The event is being coordinated by the Family Medicine department at Dalhousie University.
Clements says they’ll talk about the region’s great lifestyle and the support offered by the hospitals.
“Instead of a big city life, they can actually have a family life here, take their kids to the beach after they’ve been on a 12-hour shift and not be up until late at night for an early shift the next day.”
Clements hopes they can show doctors the lifestyle and support are second to none.
“We understand the need from the hospital and the health care sector, as well as we want to have people move to Lunenburg County to enhance our communities, to enhance our economy as well.”
Clements says it’s a great partnership and they’re hopeful they can bring back a doctor.
