Questions are being raised following government’s announcement to purchase land in Bayer’s Lake for a new health care centre.
PC Leader Jamie Baillie is calling on Nova Scotia’s Auditor General to investigate why the province paid a half million dollars per acre for land assessed at $42,000 an acre.
“A developer with deep connections to the Liberal party who was able to sell his land to the government at 12 times its assessed value; they’ve provided no explanation to that.”
Baillie also wants to know why the McNeil Liberals side-stepped normal tendering rules to make this purchase.
“If this was all on the up and up, why wasn’t it tendered? The best way to ensure taxpayers get a good deal and that transparency is paramount is by tendering these major purchases.”
Premier McNeil says the site was chosen to address concerns from Nova Scotians having to find parking around the QEII and VG hospitals.
And not every service needs to be delivered in downtown Halifax.
