The second floor was closed for public a few years ago after it failed to meet fire safety standards.
The Yarmouth Volunteer Fire Department used to host bingos, dances and receptions which generated extra revenue for them.
Mayor Pam Mood says in the past couple of years new doors, windows and siding have been installed along with a new
exit stairway in the back of the building.
She tells CJLS News the town wants to get the second floor back up and running and has committed the necessary funds.
“I believe our number was $150,000 for the washrooms alone because they have to be done to spec. Another $50,000 in regards to the fire separation.
Mood says the upstairs of the fire hall was always busy and people miss all the functions.
The volunteers and certainly the Ladies Auxiliary did some tremendous work and that space was lost and along with it some of the ability to have these events and we want that to happen again.”
