A team of six participated in the North America Vehicle Rescue Challenge hosted by the Hagerman Fire Department on Long island, New York last week.
Woods Harbour Fire Chief Gordon Ross tells us he’s proud of the team. “There’s three judges and they score you in 12 to 13 categories and you compete against the clock. We had a second place in the limited pit and a second place in the unlimited pit.”
The pits involve the teams performing vehicle rescues with and without hydraulic tools. It’s a North american-wide competition with 12 teams.
Ross says they were happy to return home after doing so well. “We pretty near fell off the picnic table when they read our name off. We thought we did quite good. we thought maybe we’d get third place or honourable mention. But to have two second places, we’re pretty proud of ourselves.”
