The MLA for Argyle-Barrington says yesterday’s funding announcement by the province for gravel roads was the result of a broken promise.
The Liberals committed $10-million annually to the new gravel road improvement program for gravel, grading and drainage improvements.
Chris d’Entremont says $2.9-million for the western region which includes Shelburne and Yarmouth counties doesn’t cut it.
“A lot of our roads now don’t have the gravel that’s required to continue to grade them correctly. The Coldstream Road in Quinan comes to mind, where the road bed is actually broken, it’s going to cost a phenomenal amount of money to get that road up to a standard that residents can trust.”
d’Entremont says it’s interesting the government’s admission that the roads have been neglected comes as part of a flurry of pre-election funding announcements.
