The new Superintendent of the Tri-County Regional School Board is through his first week in office.
Paul Ash has met with staff, and completed his first board meeting on Tuesday.
It was an historic moment, as Ash is the first Superintendent of African descent in Nova Scotia.
He says just to be a Superintendent is a privilege.
“It in many ways demonstrates what I’ve always believed as a teacher; we have tremendous untapped potential in different populations within this province. Me moving into this position is hopefully reflective of the future of this province in terms of drawing on all the assets that exist for us.”
Ash was employed with the Department of Education for 12 years and was most recently Director of the African Canadian Services Division.
He says he looks forward to continuing to meet with staff and parents on priorities of the board going forward.
Ash says he is happy to be living in Meteghan, closer to his niece Alexis and family.
