Extended wet winter weather has meant many gravel roads in Yarmouth County are still a mess.
Don Houston with Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal in Yarmouth says staff have been working weekends in order to catch up.
He says it was a bad spring.
“Last year at this time we had 50% of the grading done. So far, if we’ve got a dozen done that’s all we’ve got. There’s over 300 kilometres of gravel roads.”
Houston says they get lots of calls each day from people asking when their road will be graded.
“I know everybody’s in a hurry to get them done but we’re working as quick as we can.”
The Yarmouth depot has two graders but they have two additional ones on loan from TIR in Bridgewater and Kentville.
Conditions are wetter in those areas so they can’t use the heavy equipment yet.
